Caramelized Brussels Sprouts

Ingredients (That's right, there's just 3!):
10-15 Brussels Sprouts
2 Tbsps Butter
3-4 Tbsps Sugar

Directions:
  1. Rinse the brussels sprouts while they are still whole
  2. Steam the Brussels sprouts for 5 minutes to get the cooking started
  3. Cut each Brussels sprout in half. This will allow for faster cooking and better overall sugar coating
  4. Melt the butter in a medium saute pan
  5. Add the steamed, cut Brussels sprouts to the pan and coat with the melted butter
  6. Sprinkle the sugar evenly over the Brussels sprouts and stir frequently, keeping in mind that the sugar will cause them to burn faster than normal
  7. Plate and serve when there's no more liquid butter and the Brussels sprouts have turned golden brown
Total saute time: 10-12 minutes

This is a great recipe for children who don't like eating veggies. Start them out on this candied treat. Once they are hooked, slowly cut back on the sugar. It's saying a lot that my veggie-hating hubby has fallen in love with them.

For a savory version saute them in olive oil and garlic powder rather than butter and sugar until golden brown. All the other prep work is the same.
